found! project

This interactive multimedia project was developed as part of the introductory multimedia series at Portland Community College, including project design, graphics production, audio and video editing, programming, testing, and evaluation.

I have a kind of fascination for found objects, all the unexpected things we come across on our way from here to there, and this project was a way to share that. “There is a romance in lost objects, I think,” a character in a Joyce Carol Oates story reports, “like abandoned houses, junked cars—objects once valuable and cherished, now ownerless.” A romance and then the profound disappointment of torn receipts and banal lists, of things one might expect to find in the gutter. Otherwise the rare gem could not be pulled triumphantly from so much detritus.
